On 7th June 2018, the city of Petaling Jaya was accepted as a member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC), making it the first and only Malaysian city to be acknowledged as a Learning City by UNESCO at present.
This pioneering effort by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) fits well into its 10-year Strategic Plan 2016-2026 and the Petaling Jaya Sustainable 2030 Masterplan with a clear vision to turn Petaling Jaya into a leading, dynamic and sustainable city. The 10-year Strategic Plan that outlines four strategic thrusts: Governance, Community, Environment and Economy, highlights the importance of education and continuous learning by council officers, city residents and the business community to materialise the city’s vision.
Petaling Jaya Learning City is headed by the Mayor who chairs the Steering Committee.
